JenkinsвЂ™s songwriting and hooks are in peak form, as evidenced by tracks like вЂњBonfireвЂќ and вЂњSharp Knife,вЂќ the latter of which may very well be the best 3EB track that was never released to radio. 3 on the Billboard Top 200 вЂ“ a personal best вЂ“ it also showcased the band at its most mature. Hell, it could be argued that 2009вЂ™s Ursa Major is the bandвЂ™s crowning achievement. вЂњSemi-Charmed LifeвЂќ was an obvious smash, as was вЂњJumper.вЂќ вЂњHowвЂ™s It Going to BeвЂќ and вЂњNever Let You GoвЂќ also held it down on the pop and rock radio charts, but aside from that, 3EB didnвЂ™t exactly produce a greatest hits record during its heyday.ДЄnd, yeah, the band is a bit underserved in terms of its newer material. While not exactly a one-hit wonder, Third Eye BlindвЂ™s catalog isnвЂ™t chock-full of hits. And some simply couldnвЂ™t give less of a damn about the band at all.Д®ach of these groups makes a point. Some simply canвЂ™t stand frontman Stephan Jenkins, labeling him an egomaniac who has essentially run off his fellow 3EB founders in claiming the band as his own. Others swear by the bandвЂ™s newer material.

Some have long since written the band off as a one-hit wonder, a piece of late-'90s pop-rock that theyвЂ™ve long since forgotten. Third Eye Blind is an interesting case as it pertains to '90s nostalgia. Now, Third Eye Blind is playing Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion on July 14 in support of the 20th anniversary of its self-titled debut. Everclear, Vertical Horizon and Fastball did the same. Collective Soul, Our Lady Peace and Tonic just played in Houston. That era, at least for now, is unequivocally the '90s. ItвЂ™s also a time for nostalgia, particularly for bands of a certain era. Summer is a time for the beach, blockbuster movies and cool, refreshing drinks enjoyed on a shaded patio somewhere.
